Just did a DIY oil and filter change myself on a 56 S-Max 2.0 Tdci. Ford Prefect is right, The drain plug is an 8mm allen key. The filter is a 26mm hex socket. oil filter highlighted. The 26mm socket was a tight fit onto the filter, needing tapping on using a wooden rod and mallet. It unscrews anticlockwise, mine was very tight, the main dealer

A little tip for tightening filter on a Ford filter is shows pictorially to hand tighten then turn 3/4, to aid I put some frog tape around the filter and marked into quarters and numbered 1 to 4 and then noted a piont and moved 3 segments.
Hi guys, my first fuel filter change on focus 1.6tdci. Taken old filter out no problems and put in new one. Reconnected everything except the outlet pipe. Put the vacum pump from the outlet pipe and pumped until diesel came through bubble free. Reconnected outlet pipe. Went to start car and it started. Clean off the oil filter receptacle and make sure that the rubber o-ring from the old oil filter is not still attached to the engine. Spin on the new oil filter in the clockwise direction to about 1/4 to 1/3 turn past hand tight. Do not over tighten the oil filter and do not use the oil filter wrench to tighten it.
All you do is: Turn on the ignition (or push the start button with the clutch up) Press the brake and accelerator fully down. After a moment, the centre display will tell you that the reset is in progress. Keep the pedals down until it informs you that reset is complete. No more oil change warning!
